The Swiss designer found the inspiration for his Spring/Summer 2013 collection in his familiy: Zigerli’s father was a pilot. Classic shapes of his father’s uniforms and bags are reinterpreted in his current looks. In preparation for the collection, Zigerli watched the action movie ‘Top Gun’ starring Tom Cruise that starts ’somewhere in the Indian Ocean’.
For the collection ‘My Daddy Was a Military Pilot’ Julian Zigerli worked together with Berlin-based artist Fabian Fobbe. With addressing the reference point ‘water’ in his print designs, he evokes distinct connotations of reflecting light on water. ‘My Daddy Was a Military Pilot’ is a tribute to technology, speed, and to breaking through limits. I have only one commento about this collection “I love it, because looks powerful and comfortable”.

“My Daddy Was A Military Pilot” is an homage to a shark of the sky, built out of stories, memories and feelings. It is not about the military but the rush associated with being a jet pilot. It is an idea of an incredible power released within you by the thought of flying with supersonic speed. A feeling full of longing, solitude, power and dignity. Zigerli uses high-grade material, functional design and extraordinary printing, made out of a collaboration with the Berlin artist Fabian Fobbe, to fuel the collection with a heroic character which literally repeals light from it. A collection for a proud man who stays grounded in the past but still reaches for the stars.

“Mi papá era un piloto militar” es un homenaje a un tiburón del cielo, construido a partir de historias, recuerdos y sentimientos. No se trata de los militares exactamente, pero sí de la fiebre asociada con ser un piloto de jet y quien tenga la fortuna de tener contacto con este medio sabe como los pilotos viven su sueño.
Según Zigerli “se trata de una idea que tiene un poder increíble liberado dentro de ti, es la idea de volar a una velocidad supersónica. Un sentimiento lleno de nostalgia, soledad, poder y dignidad”. Zigerli utiliza materiales de alta calidad, logra un diseño funcional y la impresión sobre las telas fue hecha en colaboración con el artista berlinés Fobbe Fabian. Una propuesta para un hombre orgulloso, que se queda conectado a tierra con el pasado, pero que todavía sueña con alcanza las estrellas.
